Does my company qualify as a business or a small business?

If your company is subscribed to the Small General rate class with Nova Scotia Power, you're considered a small business. This typically means your business uses less than 32,000 kWh of electricity per year and doesn't have a demand charge on your bill. Note that even if your rate code appears 'residential,' you can still be classified as a small business if you meet these criteria. Essentially, it's about how much energy you use and the specifics of your billing, rather than the type of establishment you are.

How do I sign up? Do I need to contact my current energy supplier?

For electricity from Renewall, you must first sign up for Renewall for Business or Renewall for Home on our website. You do not need to contact your current supplier to switch. We will handle that for you.

How does the waitlist work?

Residential and small business accounts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The earlier you sign up, the sooner you may become a customer.

How long will my switch take?

Renewall is available on a first-come, first-served basis. After you have signed up for Renewall for Business or Renewall for Home on our website, you will be notified when service is available as capacity allows. As part of the account activation process, we will also notify your current supplier of the change and you will be switched over after your next billing cycle.

Are small businesses eligible for Renewall?

Yes, small businesses are eligible in all areas where Nova Scotia Power service is available. Please sign up for Renewall for Home on our website to reserve your spot.

When will Renewall be available for residential customers?

Residential service will be available beginning in 2026. Service will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis as our capacity to generate clean electricity increases (municipal power utilities excepted).

I’m a customer of a municipal power utility, can I switch to Renewall Energy?

No, municipal power utility territories are not on the Nova Scotia Power Grid and are therefore outside of our service area.

Am I eligible for Efficiency Nova Scotia Programs?

Yes, all Renewall customers will be eligible for Efficiency Nova Scotia Programs.

Do I need a smart meter?

Yes, all Renewall customers will be required to have a smart meter. In Nova Scotia, 99% of all meters are now smart meters, so unless otherwise requested, you probably already have one.

What happens if I have an outstanding balance with my current supplier?

You will not be allowed to leave your current provider if you have an outstanding balance. Once that is resolved, you will be able to switch providers.

Do I need any new equipment at my house as a Renewall customer?

No, as long as you have a smart meter from Nova Scotia Power. Nova Scotia Power will still own and read the meters of Renewall customers.

Do I have to sign a contract if I sign up with Renewall?

Yes, you must sign a contract to receive electricity from Renewall. We have different options to choose from ranging from 1 year to 5 year terms for home and small business customers.

About Renewall

What makes Renewall Energy different?

Renewall (Renewall Energy Inc.) is a Nova Scotian company that sells 100% renewable energy produced in Nova Scotia directly to the people and businesses of Nova Scotia.

Does Renewall own its own grid?

No, Nova Scotia Power owns and manages the grid. We generate electricity only, and distribute it on the Nova Scotia Power Grid. If you have an issue with the grid, such as a power outage, please contact NSPI.

Wait. What? Can you really distribute electricity on Nova Scotia Power’s grid?

Yes, Renewall was granted a Licence by the NSUARB in 2021 to be the first Licenced Retail Supplier in Nova Scotia, under the Renewable to Retail program. You will find us listed on the NSUARB and Nove Scotia Power websites.

Is Renewall affiliated with Nova Scotia Power?

No, we are not an affiliate of Nova Scotia Power. Renewall is a privately-owned Nova Scotian company.

Who is Renewall owned by?

Renewall is owned by Roswall Development Inc., a privately-owned Nova Scotian company led by CEO and renewable energy veteran, Dan Roscoe. Roswall’s leadership team has been leading the clean energy transition in Nova Scotia, the Atlantic Provinces and in various other regions around the world for more than 20 years.

About renewable energy

Will being a Renewall customer lower my carbon footprint?

Yes, all of the electricity you consume will be 100% clean electricity with zero generation related emissions.  All Environmental Attributes associated with your electricity usage will be transferred to you, allowing you to reduce your carbon footprint.

What if it isn’t windy, will I still have power?

Yes, you will receive the same reliability of power as if you were a Nova Scotia Power customer, even it if isn’t windy. We manage all of that for you.

How does the energy get to me?

We don’t deliver renewable electricity to your property directly from a wind or solar farm. Electricity is delivered through the Nova Scotia Power Grid, a melting pot of different types of energy. We contribute more units of renewable energy to the grid than our customers use. This is regulated by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.

Is renewable energy more expensive?

No, the cost of renewable energy has been steadily decreasing for over 10 years. Electricity from on-shore wind, the type of energy Renewall generates, is now cheaper to produce in most markets—including Nova Scotia—than electricity produced by fossil fuels.

Is renewable energy reliable?

Yes, we generate more electricity for the Nova Scotia Power Grid than our customers use, as regulated by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board. You will never be without power because it isn’t windy enough.

Billing and customer support

Do you offer equal billing?

No, currently we do not offer an equal billing program.

Will I be charged a cancellation fee if I terminate my contract?

If you terminate your contract outside of the penalty-free period, there will be a cancellation fee.

What if I’m moving to a new home?

If you have a Renewall Home + Small Business account, your contract will terminate with no cancellation fee and you will be able to start a new contract at your next location.

What is a Power Purchase Agreement?

Think of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) like a fixed-rate energy plan for your home or business. It's an agreement where you, as an energy consumer, agree to buy electricity at a set price for a certain period. This is really helpful because it protects you from the ups and downs of energy prices that happen due to market changes. Just like locking in a good mortgage rate keeps your housing costs predictable, a PPA keeps your electricity bill stable, no matter what's happening in the energy market. This means fewer surprises in your bills, making budgeting easier and giving you peace of mind.

Will I still receive a bill from Nova Scotia Power?

Renewall customers will no longer be a customer of Nova Scotia Power and will only receive a bill from Renewall.

What are Renewall’s electricity rates? Will I save money?

Renewall’s electricity prices are competitive with those of Nova Scotia Power, with the added benefit of being locked in for the term of your agreement, giving you a stable and predictable energy rate insulated from rising energy costs and price hikes. For more details, please contact us at info@renewallenergy.ca.

If my power goes out, who do I call?

Nova Scotia Power owns and manages the grid. If you have an issue with the grid, such as a power outage, please use Nova Scotia Power’s outage reporting system. Nova Scotia Power will provide emergency repair services to their infrastructure, the same as they do now.

Do you offer Time of Day pricing?

No, currently we do not offer Time of Day pricing.
